The THX® pm3 Approved, Big Blue monitoring system, partners 3-way, tri-amplified SAT 12 satellites with a 1000-Watt SUB 15 Universal subwoofer, to deliver effortlessly clean and accurate mid-field monitoring in larger rooms.

The 500-Watt SAT 12s use a 12" high excursion hemispherical woofer, an ultra-low distortion 4" hemispherical midrange driver and a 1" dual concentric diaphragm tweeter with integral wave guide for superior off-axis response. To reduce destructive cabinet diffraction effects, Blue Sky has incorporated the proprietary ‘Multi-Aperture Acoustic Diffraction Absorber’ into the baffle, which helps to maintain smooth on and off-axis frequency response throughout the critical mid and high frequency ranges, without the need for a large wave guide or horn.

The 1000-Watt SUB 15 Universal is a sealed box design built around a 15" forward-firing driver with a massive cast aluminum frame, dual long excursion 2.5" voice coils and an enormous 20lb-plus motor structure. The SUB 15 Universal has built-in 2.1 bass management electronics with both a 4th order 80Hz Linkwitz-Riley low-pass filter and a 2nd order 80Hz high-pass filter compatible with Big Blue’s bass-managed input.

Application Notes

Big Blue is ideal for larger 2.1, 5.1 and beyond, mid-field monitoring applications including music recording and film sound dubbing. Controls on the rear of the SAT 12 allow for ‘full space’ – placement in a room, or ‘half space’ – mounted in a baffle wall, while a switchable extended low frequency response on the SUB 15 Universal is ideal for large rooms that don’t exhibit the room gain phenomenon of smaller sealed spaces. The SAT 12 is designed to operate both vertically or horizontally, thanks to the rotatable MF/HF plate.
